Terms of Service

This is a plain-language template, not a lawyer-drafted contract. It's a solid starting point for a free app with no in-app purchases; if you later add payments/subscriptions, have it reviewed and updated before doing so.

1. Acceptance

By creating an account or using SideQuest ("the app"), you agree to these Terms. The app is operated by Dennis Maximilian Thelen, Argelanderstraße 7, 53115 Bonn, Germany (see Impressum).

2. The service

SideQuest is currently a free app with no in-app purchases or subscriptions. Features may be added, changed, or removed over time.

3. Your account

You must provide a valid email address and keep your password secure.
You're responsible for activity that happens under your account.
You must be at least 16 years old, or have parental/guardian consent, to use the app.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Harass, threaten, or abuse other users through quests, proof photos, or any other feature.
Upload proof photos containing illegal content, someone else's personal data without consent, or anything sexually explicit or otherwise unlawful.
Attempt to circumvent XP/level mechanics through automated tools, scripts, or exploiting bugs.
Impersonate another person or misuse another user's account.

We may suspend or delete accounts that violate these rules.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of the proof photos and quest text you submit. By submitting them, you grant us a limited license to store and display that content to the other users a quest involves (e.g. the sender, for verification), solely to operate the app. We don't use your content for advertising or sell it to third parties.

6. Termination

You may delete your account at any time (see Support). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate section 4, or discontinue the app entirely with reasonable notice where practicable.

7. Disclaimer and liability

The app is provided "as is." We don't guarantee it will be error-free or uninterrupted. To the extent permitted by German law, our liability is limited to intent and gross negligence; liability for death, personal injury, or claims under mandatory statutory provisions (e.g. the German Product Liability Act) is not excluded or limited.

8. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Germany. If you are a consumer, mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence within the EU may also apply.

9. Changes

If we make material changes to these Terms, we'll update the effective date above and, where required, notify you in the app.
